This blog is a collaborative effort among the Milford High School Writing Center student consultants, teacher supervisors, and various guest bloggers. We plan to use the blog for the following purposes:
Picking a college major is probably one of the most stressful decisions a person can make. Though it does not need to be truly set in stone until junior year of college, this decision impacts the rest of one’s life. How does one go about choosing a major? Those lucky few knew from the second grade that they wanted to be a chemical engineer. Some enjoy a certain subject in school so they decide they could tolerate obtaining a job that deals with that subject, while others research jobs and choose a major based off of one that sounds interesting. How do we ever really know if we choose the right path for ourselves? What if we cannot stand the job we obtain after college? Do we suffer through life and dread waking up in the morning or do we go back to school and earn a new degree? Unfortunately, in this economy, students cannot afford to go back to school and fix their mistake. They are expected to get out in the world and make a living by earning money. Ultimately, college is that last welcoming place we experience where our decisions do not impact our financial income. College students are expected to find a solid major that they can see themselves finding a job in for the rest of their lives. What an enormous decision.
Is prom really worth the stress and money? There are so many small details you have to worry about when going to prom. First of all, you have to find the right dress for you and being a girl I know how difficult this can be. Sometimes it can take forever to find the right dress, you may have to go to several shops before you find the right dress for you. Another stressor that goes along with prom is just finding a date to go with that you know you will have a good time with. Even though prom is one night, you want to go with someone who you are good friends with and that can make the whole prom experience fun. After you have found the dress and date, deciding what group you want to go in comes next. You have to ask yourself whether you want a large group or a smaller group to go in. Once you have that all figured out, you and your group need to decide on where you want to eat the night of prom. After all that stuff is figured out before hand, you need to make sure to buy the prom tickets. Also, you and your date need to decide whether to go to after prom or not. All these decisions are huge but when you are making them you need to have in mind how much money you are willing to spend on the whole prom experience. For most people the money is a major factor in deciding what you are going to do and what you will be wearing. Prom is a huge stress to most people but once you have all the details figured out you can relax and enjoy prom. I hope everyone has a great prom!
